5. Tapas
When in Spain it is of course tapas that is the most important thing to try, tapas come originally from and the word "tapas" is derived from tapar, which means "to cover". It is said that in the very south of Spain, in Andalusia the first Tapas was a simple slice of bread which was placed over the glass to keep the flies out. Hence the word ‘tapas’. Tapas can nowadays be anything from hot small dishes, to a piece of meat on top of a bread slice or olives. Tapas is in general shared between several people, you order a few that you like, and share with your friends. More about different places to go and eat tapas further on!
